Kemp's Men Morris Side @ The Blackfriars Tavern - Dance - Traditional in Great Yarmouth, Great Yarmouth - Great Yarmouth

Kemps Men Blackfriars Tavern

About

Tell one, tell all, make it known wide and far! Kemp's Men Of Norfolk will be dancing out on Mayday at The Blackfriars Tavern Great Yarmouth from about 2pm (but don't come late,, come early because they start in Norwich at 5am!) There will be traditional music and dancing to traditional tunes. This is the most significant day in the Morris year, and we are truly honoured that they will be visiting us.

Please come along to watch and support this spectacle which has been a part of traditional English life for centuries.

We remember seeing it in our town in the 1970's where the side consisted of builders, blacksmiths, and other artisans, reflecting the traditions of rural communities where Morris dancing was a vital part of festivals and social gatherings. Farmers and farm laborers also played a significant role, as many morris sides were closely tied to agricultural communities. You'd also find a mix of individuals from different walks of life within the community who enjoyed the dancing and music. About Blackfriars Tavern: It is the current East Anglia CAMRA Pub Of The Year, and the current Norfolk CAMRA Cider Pub Of The Year. It generally has 10 real ales available, and up to 40 real ciders and perries. It has a strict no swearing policy facilitating good conversation, and provides a relaxed and welcoming environment.
