Explore the Broads

Hundreds of visitors every year sail along The Broads though the borough of Great Yarmouth. From the north, boats can cruise along the rivers Thurne and Bure, past Martham, Thurne, Acle and Stokesby through beautiful countryside dotted with windmills to Great Yarmouth. There are some great riverside pubs and tea rooms along the way, many with overnight moorings to break your journey.

Martham Broad is inaccessible by broads cruiser or sailing boat, but there is a beautiful walk along the edge of the nature reserve. Canoes and stand-up paddle boards can be hired at Martham to enjoy this area of the Broads from the water.

Great Yarmouth Yacht Station, run by the Broads Authority is next to Great Yarmouth's north-west tower, just a short walk from Great Yarmouth town centre. It's the perfect spot to moor up and enjoy everything that Great Yarmouth has to offer.

Explore the Broads from the water

From the south, visitors can sail past St. Olaves and Fritton and on to Burgh Castle at the conflux of the River Yare and the River Waveney and along to Breydon Water where the sunsets are just stunning. Day boats can also be hired at St. Olaves near the bridge. The lovely Berney Arms Windmill, which is accessible only by foot, train or boat, is just before the conflux of the rivers Yare and Waveney although it is currently in the process of restoration so is closed to visitors and can only be viewed from the outside

The pretty villages of Filby, Rollesby and Ormesby surround the famous Trinity Broads, five standalone but interlinked Broads which are a haven for wildlife and birdlife. A wooden board walk at Filby is easily accessible to everyone. There are plenty of longer walks taking in a number of villages and beautiful Broads views all over the area.
