Explore California & Scratby
Great Yarmouth's wide, sandy beach continues north of Caister-on-Sea to California and Scratby, where low sandy cliffs are topped with a range of accommodation options.
A long track leads down to the long, wide beach at Scratby where on a clear day visitors can stand on the small cliff top and see for miles into the distance. Scratby is a great surfing beach with two peaks, which work best on easterly and northerly swells.
California owes its name to the discovery of 16th century gold coins on the beach in 1848 at the same time as the Californian ‘gold rush' was taking place in America.
These lovely, quieter villages are great holiday spots bordering the sea, and ideal touring bases for Great Yarmouth, the Norfolk Broads and surrounding countryside.
