Explore Hopton-on-Sea
Hopton-on-Sea is a small, friendly village 8 miles south of Great Yarmouth and just south of Gorleston-on-Sea.
This seaside village is perhaps best known for hosting the World Indoor Bowls Championships every January, when the best indoor bowlers in the world converge at Potters Leisure Resort to compete in a series of tournaments.
The pretty village has amusement arcades, two large holiday villages, homely village pubs and convenience stores.
The ruins of St Margaret's Church in Hopton-on-Sea which are currently undergoing restoration by the Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust are well worth a visit on a Sunday afternoon in summer when strawberries and cake are often on offer.
If you really love walking, you might like to find out about the St Mary Michael Pilgrims Way walk which runs from Cornwall to Norfolk, ending at Hopton-on-Sea. It's a fascinating project which is said to follow earth energy currents right across the country.
