On the edge of the Waveney Forest, Fritton and St Olaves form the outermost villages of Great Yarmouth.
This pretty village is home to the English Heritage site St Olaves Drainage Mill and the remains of a small Augustine prioy with a wonderfully complete 14th Century, brick-vaulted undercroft, both of which are open to the public to visit free of charge, from dawn to dusk.
The small village of Fritton borders Fritton Lake, part of the Somerleyton Estate which straddles the Norfolk/Suffolk border. The lake or decoy as it is sometimes known, is a beautiful privately owned broad and is now a private holiday club.
The tiny thatched church is well worth a look. A number of walks are possible in this area.
Just nearby, there's a large garden centre which is also home to Fritton Owl Sanctuary, and at Caldecott Hall, home to an 18-hole golf course and driving range. You wil also find Redwings Horse Sanctuary, home to the UK's largest horse sanctuary.
